Important Questions to Ask Before Boarding Your Cat

Whether planning a long family vacation or simply taking a much-needed weekend getaway, it’s important to have a plan for your feline companion when you leave. Cat boarding facilities are great options, especially if you don’t have any family or friends close by to watch your furry friend while you are away. But just as you wouldn’t stay in the first hotel that popped up on google, you need to do the research and put in the work to find a safe and comforting place for your animal to stay.

Here are a few important questions to ask before boarding your cat to ensure they enjoy their stay!

Can I tour the facilities before booking?

You should never board your cat in a facility you’ve never seen in person. Online pictures and descriptions can be deceiving, so it’s important to look around and see exactly where your animals would be staying to determine if the place is clean, organized, and in good condition.

How close will my cat be to other animals?

Several different animals may be there, depending on the boarding facility you choose. If your cat is frightened of dogs and their living spaces are close, this could be a nightmare for your feline friend. If your cat is extremely social but is isolated from other cats in the kennel, your cat could feel very lonely and neglected. Ensure you express your pet’s social preferences before booking their stay.

How are the animals monitored?

Who is checking in on your cat day-to-day, and how often? Are there cameras in the facility that you can view online to see how your pet is doing and what they are up to?

It’s important that your cat is monitored regularly for their safety and to get some human interaction if they enjoy it.

Do I need to bring food for my cat?

Many large animal care facilities provide food and treats for your pet, but if your cat needs a specific food, you should bring a supply of that for them. Make sure you give the facility a feeding schedule for your animal and a list of any medications they need put into their meals.

How much space will my cat have?

Each cat condo should be spacious enough for your cat to move around comfortably, with room to relax and explore.

At The Cat’s Inn, our classic townhouse model stands 7-foot-7-inches in height, offering cats six spacious levels to explore from top to bottom!
